Level 1 — Foundations

The building blocks every other level depends on: what numbers are, the four basic operations, multiplication tables, and the order in which calculations happen.

Lessons

Work through the lessons in order. Each one is short, starts with something you can picture, and ends with practice questions to try on your own.

  1. Lesson 1 What Are Numbers? What a number represents, counting numbers, and zero — starting with a handful of apples.
  2. Lesson 2 Addition and Subtraction Combining and taking away, the number line, and why addition and subtraction undo each other.
  3. Lesson 3 Multiplication Repeated addition, equal groups, and arrays. Coming soon
  4. Lesson 4 Division Sharing equally, making groups, and remainders. Coming soon
  5. Lesson 5 Tables Building the multiplication tables from patterns instead of memorising them. Coming soon
  6. Lesson 6 Order of Operations Which step comes first when a calculation mixes several operations. Coming soon
